  • Objetivos: Poses it self as the first software in the country and Latin America able to anticipate where and when future crimes could occur. “Aims to develop quantitative and analytic models to improve the prediction and understanding of tort behavior. It uses qualitative and quantitative analysis of crime, its modeling, and simulation to reveal hidden patterns in the processes of criminal activity and judicial systems, with the purpose of establishing prevention methods with the same pattern’s knowledge. It combines Criminology, Computer Modeling, Geographic Information Systems, Mathematical Modeling, Economics, Game Theory and Statistics, to name a few of the areas involved.”

  • Como funciona de acordo com as informações oficiais do projeto: – Carabineros have access to the Integrated Criminal Analysis Platform (Pacic, Plataforma de Análisis Criminal Integrado), which has been systematically capturing data on crime through a national cloud information platform. If any crime occurs in any region or area of Chile, and if Carabineros have registered it, the event is incorporated into this database.

    -Pacic is an information platform on cloud, accessed by all members of the Chilean police, which geographically locates the offense when a criminal complaint is reported or an offender is arrested, allocating it in quadrants in all cities of the country. It has classifications and sub-classifications of crime events, over time and zones.

    – The smart nature of the software, which was developed with the support of the Crime Prevention Undersecretariat, allows it to detect new crime patterns, anticipating the possibility of criminals moving away to new areas to evade police surveillance. “One of the characteristics of the algorithms is that they are automatic and require minimum human intervention. They provide spatiotemporal patterns that talk to each other, a kind of artificial intelligence”, explains Marcos Orchard, a researcher at the FCFM (Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences) and deputy director of the project. The development of the program cost 150 million pesos and was financed with funds from the Crime Prevention Undersecretariat. The amounts were delivered directly to scientists of the Security Analysis and Modeling Center of the University of Chile (CEAMOS).”
