Name: Sistema de información, seguimiento y evaluación de la educación pública (Chile)
Area of Application: Education
What kind of AI according to the project's official information: Big data, Analytical Visualization and Machine Learning
Goals: Deliver information and evidence to answer strategic questions that guide public policies in education.
How does it work according to the project's official information:“The platform uses data from several sources of information, such as the Population and Housing Census, student enrollment from the Ministry of Education, the results of the SIMCE test (System for Measuring the Quality of Education) carried out by the Agency for the Quality of Education, among others, which it analyzes and visualizes using interactive graphics and maps.” “In this way, it is possible to obtain answers to strategic questions that guide public policies in education, such as:
-The territorial context of the local or municipal educational services and the characteristics of the students who study in it. These indicators offer a diagnosis of territorial inequality, providing data such as spatial accessibility to public services, and socioenvironmental capital, which measures social, economic, material and environmental resources at the household level, without leaving the place of residence.
-The territorial configuration of the offer of public education in terms of quality and equitable access and the projections for the coming years, considering urban growth and inter-urban and intra-urban displacement phenomena. In this sense, the following indicators can be provided:
-School Availability Index (ISE, Índice de Servicio Escolar), which informs the access that a block of the territory has to an educational establishment within a 10-minute walk, which corresponds to a benchmark of what should be an adequate availability of educational establishments for students.
– Access to Educational Establishments Index (IAE, Índice de Acceso a Establecimientos), which takes into account the actual displacement of students, that is, how long and far they travel, in accordance with their socioeconomic level.
-What the educational trajectories of the students are like and how to ensure student retention in the school system. In this sense, the platform delivers a series of visualizations whose objective is to show the trajectory students follow and whether or not they manage to complete compulsory education on time.”
